RpB in Near East 2005 - Syria - The Dead Cities

The dead cities, about 60 km from Aleppo, were left about 500 AD. Still, they look as if they were still inhabited (especially Serjilla at the end)...

On the way to the Dead Cities from Kabr Nafl:

Bauda, the first city...

I was sure it would be Serjilla, the most impressive one, and was a bit disappointed...
Note the agriculture still being done, and the offerings (the head of the hen is missing).

On the way to the Town of Al Bara

These nice boys showed me some ruins

The dead city of Al Bara:

About here I realized that I had missed Serjilla...

... which is gorgeous!

I talked to some inhabitants...

Find the difference in the two pictures...

My return ticket:

These nice guys, Jamil, Ahmad, and some other name I forgot, took me back to Kafr Nabl, which was fortunate since no other people were out here at that time.
